This is a very good hardcover. 1925 Scribners Publishing. This copy is clean inside and out. NOTE: only marking seen is on dedication page there was a small piece paper left inside which caused several brown spots (see photo) that appear in dedication page and following blank page (back of dedication page). No other markings or foxing seen. The binding is tight and straight. There is very light natural tanning to pages from age but not severe. Emerald green hardcover boards are very good and also clean, featuring embossed design and lettering along with faux-leather finish. Crown octavo book size or 5.5" x 8" with 320 pages including appendix.
The Rough Riders by Theodore Roosevelt is the account of Roosevelt's service as a "Rough Rider" during the Spanish-American War. American was interested in Cuba's liberation in the 1890's and as Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Roosevelt prepared the Navy for war. The USS Maine was dispatched to Cuba and anchored in Havana for several calm months. Then, The Maine suddenly exploded and more than 200 American sailors were killed. The cause was a mystery but journalists and Roosevelt were certain it was an act of war. Soon after, was was declared. Roosevelt resigned his position with the Navy and was allowed to form a volunteer regiment. The First U.S. Volunteer Calvary was formed. Roosevelt's actions as a Rough Rider and the groups ability gained fame and it ignited his political career.
