This is a very good set of two hardcovers. 1925 Scribners Publishing. This set is very good inside and out. NOTE: inside back cover of volume One there is very mild peeling of endpaper from binding (endpapers at the time were glued to hardcover boards) and you can see some peeling of the glued endpaper. Minor flaw as binding still tight and straight. There is light natural tanning to pages but they are clean with no foxing or markings seen. The bindings on both are tight and straight. Emerald green hardcover boards are also very good and clean, featuring embossed design and lettering with a faux-leather style finish. Crown octavo book size or 5.5" x 8". Rough cut or deckle page edges both volumes. Illustrated with frontispiece. Original tissue guard for frontispiece illustrations on both volume is still in place.
African Game Trails by Theodore Roosevelt is the account of the Smithsonian-Roosevelt African Expedition to Africa in 1909-1911. It was led by Roosevelt and funded by Andrew Carnegie. The expedition collected specimens for the Smithsonian's new Natural History Museum. They group also interacted with local leaders and dignitaries in Africa. Although Roosevelt was an avid hunter, he was also a devoted conservationist. He was a pioneer of wilderness conservation in America and friend of John Muir who lobbied him for preservation. The set includes vintage photos of the expedition in both volumes along with the detailed text of encounters, hunts and social activities.
