This is a very good hardcover. 1903 Chautauqua Press. This copy is very clean inside and out. The pages do have light natural tanning from age but no foxing or markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Navy blue hardcover boards feature white design trim and lettering. Lettering and design clear and showing barely any wearing. NOTE: there is a "bump" to bottom front right corner of hardcover boards, but overall very good with most wear to corners/edges. Smaller hardcover, crown octavo book size or 5" x 8" with 497 pages including index.
The Chautauqua Institute is the home of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle. Founded in 1878 it is the oldest continuous book club in America. It honors at least 9 outstanding books yearly in genres from poetry to history to literature, essays and more. They have been a leader in education and have a young readers programs.
Studies in the Evolution of Industrial Society by Richard T. ely includes a preface by the author. It has one pull-out chart that is still intact and attached to binding. Divided into two parts, chapters include General Survey, Evolution and Industrial Society, the Economic States, Agricultural Stage, Economic Classes, Statistical Results, with Part Two being Some Special Problems of Industrial Evolution, Social Progress, Inheritance of Property, U.S. Industrial Commissions Report, Industrial Peace and more.
