This is a very good hardcover. 1900 Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle Chautauqua Press. This copy is clean inside and out. The pages are clean with no foxing or markings seen. There is only very light natural tanning to pages from age. The binding is tight and straight. Blue hardcover boards are also very good front and back and feature dark blue trim design with dark blue lettering cover and spine. There is very little if any fading to lettering and the cover is very good with only light shelf wear, mostly corners/edges. Smaller hardcover, crown octavo size or 5" x 8" with 297 pages including index.
The Chautauqua Institute is the home of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle. Founded in 1878 it is the oldest continuous book club in America. It honors at least 9 outstanding books yearly in genres from poetry to history to literature, essays and more. They have been a leader in education and have a young readers programs.

Divided into four parts, the book details the outbreak of revolution, the beginnings, attempt at constitutional monarchy, and the republic.
