Historic preservation begins with an emphasis on building, especially those associated with significant individuals, places or events. It then shifts to architecture and only in recent decades have preservationists begun to focus on the land itself. This book sets out to examine the complex academic and practical questions that arise when people set out to designate and preserve a cultural landscape. Landscapes in small towns and big cities, ethnographic landscaped, cultural landscapes and more are the focus of landscape preservationist. Geographic preservation is the foundation of this book.
