This is a very good hardcover, NO dust jacket, jacket missing. 1948 Edition from Lutterworth Press, London. This copy is clean inside and out. The pages only have very light natural tanning from age with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Olive green hardcover boards are also very good with only light shelf wear. The title/author lettering along spine is good, light fading but visible. Crown octavo book size or 5.5" x 8" with 388 pages. including notes.
The Life of the Fields by Richard Jeffries contains an intro and notes by Samuel J. Looker. Numerous wood engravings by Agnes Miller Parker bring the scenes of fields and wildlife to the reader. Originally published posthumously in 1889, this is the 1948 reprint edition from the original publisher Lutterworth, London. It is subtitles Being the Last Essays of Richard Jeffries. The author was an English nature writer along with novels and essays. The simple beauty of his writing has never lost its appeal and the natural history and nature essays still resonate today.
