This is a near fine (almost like new) leather-bound hardcover. Franklin Library Limited Edition 1980. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. Bound in red full leather, it features gold gilt design and lettering to cover along with all 3 page edges tipped in gold. Fine Smyth sewn binding accented with attached satin bookmark. Red silk moire fabric endpapers front and back. Hubbed spine with gold lettering. Printed on acid neutral paper. The binding on this edition is near fine, tight and straight. Cover also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear. This copy includes the original accompanying Notes From the Editors pamphlet. Standard octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 314 pages including afterword.
The Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce was originally published in 1906, titled The Cynic's Word Book. The revised complete edition of The Devil's Dictionary was then published in 1911. It is a satirical work comprised of common words in "dictionary" form followed by satirical and humorous definitions. Ambrose Bierce was an American journalist, poet and Civil War veteran. This work of his was named one of "The 100 Greatest Masterpieces of American Literature".
