Silas Marner by George Eliot was the third novel by the English author. Silas is a member of a small congregation in England and is falsely accused of embezzling parish funds. His pending marriage is cancelled and with pieces of evidence indicating Silas, he is shamed with indications of guilt. He leaves the town for a rural area where he is unknown. He then devotes his life to the craft of weaving. Hidden secrets, guilt and redemption are themes of the novel as Silas finds meaning and love through a foundling child. The novel, published in 1861, is considered one of the greatest of the 19th century. This edition is finely illustrated by Lyndon Lamb.
