This is a very good hardcover. 1983 Oxford University Press/Franklin Library Edition. Franklin Library was chosen by Oxford University to publish the series Oxford Library of the Worlds Great Books. This edition is finely bound, but not in the tradition of Franklin Library exclusive editions that are full leather-bound with additional exceptional features. This edition does feature blue hardcover boards with quarter leather trim and gold design and lettering. All three page edges are tipped in gold. There are marbled endpapers front and back, not moire silk as found in Franklin Library exclusive titles. Nonetheless, the binding is handsome and fine as published for Oxford. This copy is very clean inside and out. The pages are still crisp and clean with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Attached satin bookmark. Octavo book size or 6.25" x 9" with 308 pages.
The Trial by Frank Kafka was published posthumously in 1925. The novel is one of Kafka's best known works. The narrative centers around Josef, who is arrested and prosecuted by an elusive and unknown authority, and the crime itself is not revealed to the accused or the reader. The original manuscript of the novel is held at the Museum of Modern Literature and the first English translation was published in 1937.
