This is a very good hardcover. 1903 Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle Chautauqua Press. This copy is clean inside and out. The pages have light natural tanning from age but is free of foxing with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Green hardcover boards feature white design trim and lettering and are also very good with only light shelf wear corners/edges. Smaller hardcover, crown octavo book size or 5" x 8" with 283 pages. First two pages have dog ear corner but no others seen.
The Chautauqua Institute is the home of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle. Founded in 1878 it is the oldest continuous book club in America. It honors at least 9 outstanding books yearly in genres from poetry to history to literature, essays and more. They have been a leader in education and have a young readers programs.
This edition of The Great World's Farm by Selina Gaye has been somewhat abridged from the original English edition/ No essential features have been omitted. This book reviews the crops ofd the world. Chapters include an extensive intro, Pioneer Laborers, Field Laborers, Water, Deserts, Roots, Food From the Soil, Leaves and Their Work, Climate and more. It is illustrated and has questions for review at the end of each chapter.
