At Mother's Request is a true crime story hailed as one of the best at the time. It began, for police, in Salt Lake City on a hot July day in 1978. Police were called to a warehouse where they found Franklin Bradshaw - 76, auto-parts magnate and one of the largest holders of federal oil and gas leases in the country - lying dead of two gunshot wounds. But, the story actually began long before the murder and years of detective work went into solving it. Franklin met his wife and they eloped in 1924. He was the son of a faithful mormon and he worked 365 days of the year to become a millionaire. She was a "nonbeliever" whose family roamed like gypsies. What happened to them and their children and grandchildren is revealed in this drama spanning 4 generations. The book is drawn from over 250 interviews with family members, investigators, and a mysterious figure who had access to family letters and documents. It is a compelling story of how one family who seemed to have everything was brought to tragedy.
