This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. 1982 Yale University Press. this copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are still crisp and clean with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Brown hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine. The accompanying dust jacket is clean and shiny with barely a hint of shelf wear. Smaller hardcover, crown octavo book size or 5.5" x 8" with 176 pages including glossary.
This edition of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is from the English Poets Series by Yale University Press. It is edited by J.A. Burrow. The date of the poem and the author is an unknown, but the composition is roughly contemporary with Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in the latter part of the 14th century. It involves a green knight, a green horse, a winter journey, mysterious lady in a castle, and a challenge answered. It is one of the great works of medieval England. Notes and glossary are provided in this edition.
