This is a near fine (almost like new) set of two hardcovers with a very good accompanying slipcase. University of Michigan Press 1959. This set of 2 hardcover is still crisp and clean inside with no markings seen. The bindings are tight and straight on both. Navy blue hardcover boards with gold design front and silver lettering along spine are also near fine on both books. The dust jackets are near fine, still clean and shiny with only a hint of shelf wear showing (light fading to spine of both dust jackets AND Volume One has a small scuff on spine of dust jacket where store sticker removed). The accompanying slipcase is very good but does show some shelf wear to corners and edges but overall very good. Each hardcover is medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9" with 529 pages Volume 1 and 546 pages Volume 2 not including index.
The United States a Modern History by Foster Rhea Dulles is a two volume set. Volume One covers the colonies to 1865. From infant colonies in the wilderness to the Union forged in the fire of the Civil War, it covers the crises, crusades and campaigns that formed a new nation.
Volume Two cover 1865 to present times at publication. From the surrender any Appomattox to the challenge of Sputnik, the ideas, evens and personalities that shaped mid-century America.
