This is a near fine (almost like new) leather-bound hardcover. 1978 Easton Press Collectors Edition. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. Easton Press included an accompanying bookplate for new owners with collectors editions. This copy has no accompanying bookplate, nor is there one affixed inside with any owner information, therefore near fine, almost like new. Bound in brown leather, the edition features gold gilt design front and back cover and gilt title lettering along the spine which is accented with a hub (raised) spine. All three page edges are tipped in gold gilt which has barely a hint of wearing which is often found in vintage gilt books. The inside pages are crisp and clean and graced with green silk moire fabric endpapers front and back. There is an attached green satin bookmark. The binding is tight and straight and done in Smyth sewn binding with concealed joints. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 423 pages.
This edition of The Short Stories of Charles Dickens by Easton Press has been selected and introduced by Walter Allen and is finely illustrated by Edward Ardizzone. The color frontispiece of Dickens was specially commissioned for the edition. In addition, there is a publishers preface.
Selections in this edition include: The Boarding House, Horatio Sparkins, Bloomsbury Christening, Dr. Marigold, Mugby Junction, To Be Read at Dusk, Hunted Down, and more. 16 selections in all and 15 color plates.
