This is a near fine (almost like new) leather-bound hardcover. 1979 Easton Press Collectors Edition. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. Bound in brown leather the cover features gold gilt design front and gold title lettering along spine. Inside the pages are graced with gold moire fabric endpapers front and back. The fine Smyth sewn binding is tight and straight with concealed muslin joints. Attached gold satin ribbon bookmark. Hubbed (raised) spine with all three page edges tipped in gold gilt which has barely any rubbing as is often found in vintage gilt. Royal octavo book size or 6.5" x 10" with 299 pages including index of titles and first lines.
The Poems of Robert Browning by Easton Press is edited and selected by C. Day Lewis with wood engraving illustrations by Peter Reddick. The first collected version of Browning's poems was issued in two volumes in London, 1849. A definitive two volume edition was issued in 1896. The frontispiece portrait of Browning was specially commissioned Included in this edition are lyrical poems and dramatic lyrics, dramatic monologues, quest-illusion-faith, along with notes and appendix.
