This is a very good hardcover. Illustrated Editions Co. New York, Deluxe Editions 1931. This copy is clean inside and out. There is light natural tanning to pages from age but no foxing or markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Handsomely illustrated by Arthur Zaidenberg. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 183 pages. Bound in blue with tan quarter trim and gold lettering author/title spine, the hardcover boards are also good with light shelf wear to corners/edges. Some wearing through on corners. Overall good covers front and back with two minor scuffs to back cover.
French writer, Anatole France wrote Thaïs, a novel based on the life of Saint Thaïs of Egypt. Published in 1890, the novel was adapted into silent movies and and opera. Themes of temptation and righteousness appear as the story of a saint who is tempted by a beautiful courtesan.
This edition is handsomely illustrated by Arthur Zaidenbergin numerous full page drawings.
