This is a near fine (almost like new) leather-bound hardcover. 1977 Easton Press Collectors Edition. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out, like new. Easton Press provided bookplates for the new owner with each edition. This copy has no accompanying bookplate, nor is one affixed inside anywhere, therefore near fine or almost like new. The inside pages are crisp and clean, graced front and back with burgundy silk moire fabric endpapers. All three page edges are tipped in gold gilt with barely any wearing of gilt which is often found in vintage gilt books. The fine Smyth sewn binding on this copy is tight and straight exhibiting the durability of this finely bound issue. bound in black leather, the cover features gold gilt design front and back with gold title/author lettering along spine. Attached Burgundy satin bookmark. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 234 pages.
This edition of Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev from Easton Press is translated from Russian by Constance Garnett and finely illustrated with wood engraving by Fritz Eichenberg. It includes a publishers preface. The frontispiece portrait was specially commissioned. Published in 1862, it is one of the most acclaimed Russian novels of the 19th century. It explores the conflicts between fathers and sons with themes of love, political and society norms. The novel seemed to foreshadow the coming revolution and the generational differences that divide people and families.
