This is a near fine (almost like new) leather-bound hardcover. 1978 Easton Press Collectors Edition. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. Easton Press Collectors Editions presented the new owner with a bookplate to affix inside. There is NO bookplate accompanying this copy, nor is there one affixed inside indicating previous owner, thus, near fine, almost like new. The edition is bound in navy blue leather with gold gilt design front and back along with gold title/translator lettering along spine. All three page edges tipped in gold gilt to which there is barely a hint of wear as is often found in vintage gilt books. Inside the pages are graced with royal blue silk moire fabric endpapers front and back. The page and illustration pages are crisp and clean, like new. The binding is tight and straight and done in fine Smyth sewn binding with concealed muslin joints. The binding is accented with a hubbed (raised) spine. Super octavo book size or 7" x 11" with 357 pages.

The Odyssey of Homer by Easton Press is an English version translated by Alexander Pope. It is finely illustrated with the classic designs of John Flaxman and his illustrations were completed in 1793. Includes a note on the translation and publishers preface. The frontispiece illustration of Homer was specially commissioned.

As with the Iliad, The Odyssey in an epic Greek poem. It follows Odysseus, a Greek hero as he returns home after the Trojan War. He travels home from Troy to Ithaca through Africa where he encounters additional perils. It is still regarded as one of the most significant works and was translated into English in the 16th century.
