This is a very good hardcover, NO dust jacket, jacket missing. 1948 Harper Brothers Publishing. This copy is SIGNED by Bromfield (see photo) BUT there is no provenance to accompany the signature. It is an illustrated edition, illustrations by Kate Lord. Inside pages have light natural tanning from age but are very clean with no markings or foxing seen. Illustrated endpapers front and back. Standard octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 404 pages. Black hardcover boards are also very good with simple author/title/publisher lettering on spine.
Malabar Farm by Louis Bromfield was once the most famous farm "in the world". Farmers, conservationists, politicians and more traveled to visit. Even Hollywood celebrities such as Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, (who married at Malabar), traveled across the country to see the farm that was on the cutting edge of conservation and sustainability. The book is generously illustrated with charming black and white drawings from Kate Lord. Chapter include; Malabar Journal Autumn 1944, Cycle of a Farm Pond, Malabar Journal Winter '44-'45, Gardening Without Tears, Organic-Chemical Fertilizer Feud, Out of the Earth We are Born and more. Includes preface by the author.
