Return to Midway by Robert Ballard with Rick Archbold, is a finely illustrated chronicle of searches for ships sunk during the Battle of Midway, including the Yorktown. It features spectacular vintage color and black and white photos, color illustrations and underwater paintings by Ken Marschall.
The Battle of Midway took place on June 4th, 1942. The Imperial Japanese forces seemed unstoppable but after Midway, they would never take the offensive again.
The ships Ballard was searching for were placed over 3 miles down, deeper than Titanic or the Bismarck. Underwater photos and paintings of the Yorktown are haunting and is a testament to the incredible sacrifices made during the battle. One of the greatest naval warfare battles is chronicled in text and images in this edition.
