This is a very good hardcover. Sixteenth Printing Odyssey Press circa 1940's. This copy is very good given age both inside and out. NOTE: previous owners name neatly written inside front cover (see photo). AND inside back cover there had been a small piece of paper laid in that created a brown outline (also see photo). No other marks or foxing seen and there is only very light natural tanning to pages from age. The binding is tight and straight. Blue hardcover boards are also very good with only light wearing, mostly top edge at spine. Smaller 12mo book size or 5" x 7.25" with 4223 pages including index. This edition features an illustrated frontispiece of Milton.
First published in 1667, Paradise Lost by John Milton is an epic poem considered to be Milton's masterpiece. The theological poem is a theme of the fall of man, temptation and expulsion from the Garden of Eden. Originally published in ten "books" is was later arranged into 12 books in a second revised edition. This copy is in the revised 12 book version. It remains the most acclaimed epic poem of its time.
