This is a very good hardcover. Circa 1960's International Collectors Library. This copy is very good inside and out. There is only very light natural tanning to pages from age, no markings or foxing seen on inside pages. International Collectors Library books and binding are notorious for cracking along the spine and cover BUT this copy has been well kept and showing no signs of cracking. Attached satin ribbon bookmark is worn but attached and good overall. The red hardcover boards feature gold design and title/author/publisher lettering along spine. Standard octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 449 pages. We recommend shelving International Collectors Library books laying flat not standing up to preserve the binding integrity.
The novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky was originally published in 1866 by mostly installments in a literary journal called The Russian Messenger. It is the second novel of Dostoevsky and considered on of the best in literature. It follows an impoverished student struggling with mental and moral dilemmas. He is contemplating killing a pawnbroker who has stolen money and objects. He is convinced doing so will free him from poverty and he will change his life with good deeds. His theory that certain crimes are acceptable if committed for higher "goals". However, the theory is just that, a theory as he begins to struggle with moral implications and more.
