This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 198 Avenal Books Edition, two volumes in one. This copy is clean inside and out. The pages are still clean with only a hint of light natural tanning from age. NOTE: only markings seen is previous owners name marked out inside front cover, see photo. The binding is tight and straight. Brown hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear. The dust jacket is still clean and shiny, also with only a hint of shelf wear. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 843 pages including index.
Asimov's Guide to Shakespeare by Isaac Asimov is two volumes in one edition, Volume One being The Greek, Roman, and Italian Plays and Volume Two being The English Plays. Illustrated with 40 maps and 16 charts, it is a refreshing approach to the list of Shakespeare commentaries. It is an objective explanation of 38 plays and 2 poems in terms of their mythological, historical and geographical roots. It supplies the reader with a working knowledge of the topics which Shakespeare assumed his audience would be well versed in.
