This is a good solid copy of a rare book of Aesop and Others Fables. 1878 Longman's Green & Co. London, Ballantyne Hanson Publisher. This copy is good inside and out. As expected given age there is tanning to pages with no serious foxing, only occasional spotting. Previous owners bookplate inside front cover, ex-libris 1909 (see photo). Marbled endpapers front and back inside covers are very good condition. The binding is tight and straight. Half brown leather with corner trim in leather and inlaid marbled design front and back. Hubbed (raised spine) with gold lettering. Top page edges tipped in gold. 312 pages including index. Standard octavo book size or 6" x 9".

Bewick's Select Fables of Aesop and Others is divided in to three parts. Fables Extracted From Dodsley's, Fables With Reflections In Prose and Verse, and Fables in Verse. In addition, The Life of Aesop and An Essay Upon Fable by Oliver Goldsmith is included. The test is faithfully reprinted from the Rare Newcastle Edition published in 1784. The original wood engravings at by Thomas Bewick and an illustrated preface by Edwin Pearson. Illustrated frontispiece still has original tissue guard in place.
