Both are crown octavo book size or 5.5" x 8". This was originally published in a 30 volume set of a limited number of 1000. This selection is from that set and includes Little Dorrit Volume One and Volume Two only. The set as issued was # 222 of 1000 copies. The gold design and title/author/publisher on covers is still intact with only light wearing. Illustrated Bardell Edition.
Little Dorrit by Charles Dickens was originally published in 1857. It was an instant success and outsold his other works. The novel follows a family from poverty to riches. William Dorrit is in debt and in prison. He is in "debtors prison" and the novel make satire of the government and society shortcomings. The prison in the novel is Marshalsea where Dickens own father was once imprisoned. The rags-to-riches story is played out with a surprising ending that once again takes on the themes of greed and social class.
