This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with accompanying slipcase. 1973 Heritage Press Illustrated Edition. This copy is still crisp and clean inside. The pages are crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Red hardcover boards are also near fine. The accompanying slipcase is very good with only very light shelf wear. Super octavo book size or 7" x 11" with 369 pages including glossary.
The Talisman by Sir Walter Scott is one of the Waverley Novels. This edition features an intro by Thomas Caldecot Chubb and is finely illustrated by Federico Castellon. It includes the original Heritage Press Sandglass pamphlet.
Published in 1825, The Talisman was the authors second of his Tales of the Crusades and set during the Third Crusade. The novel was ranked among the best of the Waverley Novels and well received. the historical characters are rich and full of depth.
In 1956, British Railways name the non-stop express to Edinburgh Waverley "The Talisman".
