This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1970 Martin Secker & Warburg, London. This copy is very clean inside and out. NOTE: previous owners name/date marked out top edge first blank page. There is a minor scuff inside front cover where sticker removed. No other marks/writing seen as rest of pages appear very clean with color plates clean and bright. Green hardcover boards under jacket are very good, clean with only a hint of shelf wear. The dust jacket is good, there is light shelf wear mostly along top edge including small tears at top but it is very clean and still shiny. Super octavo book size or 8" x 10.5" with 302 pages.
The World of Charles Dickens by Angus Wilson is a persuasive study as the author traces Dickens career from his birth in a small house in Portsmouth to his death. He shows how Dickens life, experience, and obsessions were transmuted into the great art of his novels. He quotes extensively from Dicken's own letters and writings. It is a complete and compelling account of Dickens from an author who is specialized in Dicken's works and history.
