This is a very good hardcover. 1920 The University Society. This copy is very clean inside and out. The pages only have light natural tanning from age and are clean with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Green hardcover boards with embossed design front cover are also very good with only light shelf wear as expected given age. Super octavo book size or 7" x 11" with 400 pages.
The Boys and Girls Bookshelf was originally published in a set of 17 volumes. Subtitled " A Practical Plan of Character Building", the set was published by The University Society, New York. They were designed to provide stories, biographies, activities, wonders of the world, famous people and their works, geography and history lessons and more. They were encyclopedias of sorts for children filled with fictional and nonfictional characters, stories and more to fill children with wonder and guidelines for living. Each volume was extensively illustrated with photos, drawings and pictures. Every volume featured a frontispiece in full color, covered with tissue guard highlighting a character or event.
This is Volume XIII Every Land and Its Story. Contents include A Reading Journey Through the United States, Canada From Sea to Sea, America's Great Cities, South American, Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe and more.
