The Way of The World by English playwright William Congreve was premiered in 1700. It is a Restoration comedy or comedy of manners but was initially not well received. But it soon was recognized as one of Congreve's best works. It follows two people who wish to marry but keep their inheritance. The play mocks and ridicules society rules and behavior. Deception and scheming are central themes displaying how people will do anything for money. This edition is finely illustrated by T.M. Cleland.
