This is a near fine (almost like new) large hardcover with accompanying slipcase. Signed/numbered limited edition by illustrator for the Limited Editions Club 1982. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages inside are still crisp and clean with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight, like new. The fully illustrated cover, front and back, is also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying slipcase is very good, also with only a hint of shelf wear. Slightly larger than imperial octavo book size, this measures 8.25" x 13".
A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams was first performed on Broadway in 1947. Later adapted into film, it remains one of the most critically acclaimed plays of the 20th century and William's most popular work. The work follows a southern bell, Blanche Dubois who suffers personal loss and has to abandon her prosperous life to move in with her sister Stella and her husband Stanley in a shabby New Orleans apartment.
This edition features a foreword by Jessica Tandy ( who starred in the Broadway play, along with Marlon Brando. Both were virtual unknowns at the time). It includes an Intro by the author and is illustrated by Al Hirschfeld. The book is from The Limited Editions Club, 1982 and is a signed/numbered by the illustrator copy. The last page in the book contains the colophon and detailed information about the 2000 copies printed and signed. This copy is number 1404 and signed by the illustrator.
Included and laid-in is the monthly letter from The Limited Editions Club. This letter details the fine binding of the edition along with author personal information and related descriptions of the work.
The binding description includes details about this special edition and its aniline leather spine cover in burgundy complementing the cloth patterned cover, hand painted in 13 colors of vine and flowers.
This is a rare and fine collectible limited edition, illustrator signed, addition to any library.
