This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1988 Harper Row Publishing Book Club Edition. this copy is very clean inside and out. The pages clean with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Hardcover boards under jacket are very good with only light shelf wear. The dust jacket is clean and still mostly shiny with only light shelf wear along edges/corners. Book Club edition, standard octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 371 pages.
The Guns of Cedar Creek tells the story of the Battle of Cedar Creek that not only decided the final control of the Shenandoah Valley, but it also was a vivid example of the 4 years of fighting that preceded it. The battle included fascinating characters, enduring poignancy. Especially moving were the deaths of two of the best and brightest on both sides. Stephen Dodson Rammer of North Carolina, a Major General at 27, and the brilliant and revered 29 year old Charles Russell Lowell of Massachusetts. Among the others at the battle were Sheridan, Custer, and future presidents Rutherford B. Hayes and William McKinley. This is a complete account of the battle and those who fought it as the surrender at Appomattox loomed just 6 months away.
