This is a near fine (almost like new) set of two hardcovers with dust jackets. University of PA Press, 1984. This set is like new inside and out. The pages are still crisp and clean with no markings seen. The bindings are tight and straight. Grey cloth hardcover boards under jackets are also near fine. The dust jacket are clean and shiny with barely a hint of shelf wear. Standard octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 304 and 268 pages including index.
This two volume set of The Russian Image of Goethe begins with Goethe in Russian literature in the first half of the 19th century and concludes in volume two with Goethe in Russian literature in the second half of the 19th century. Each is a concise factual account of Russian literary relations to Goethe. The author makes use of previously unpublished material and offers rich notes and complete bibliography. The work is a balanced perspective on Goethe's early impact on Russia.
