This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with accompanying slipcase. Third Impression 1975 Folio Society. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp and clean with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. The emerald green hardcover boards have maroon quarter trim with leaves design front and gold title/author lettering along spine. The accompanying slipcase is in mint green and very good with only light shelf wear. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 10" with 93 pages.
This edition of Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas is finely illustrated with lithographs by Ceri Richards and is edited with an introduction by Douglas Cleverdon.
The play was introduced as a radio drama in 1954. It was later adapted for stage and film. In the play, the narrator is beckoning the audience into the dreams and thoughts of the residents of a fictional small Welsh fishing village. Characters include Captain Cat who is reliving his seafaring life, a widow who is constantly nagging her two dead husbands, and one young woman pinning for her dead lover. Later in the play the townsfolk "awaken" and realize how their feeling affect their daily lives.
