Trails West from The National Geographic Society is a rich and detailed look at the settling of the American West. The hardy pioneers who braved the journey west endured suffering and hardship but ultimately persevered. Many who attempted the journey paid with their lives. Those who survived took root and created great cities and enterprises. With more than 130 color photos, many evoking the wilderness that greeted early settlers, the journey is brought to life. In addition, 59 historical illustrations provided a vivid portrait of frontier life. Journals and letters are delved into for historical accuracy, giving the reader a true picture of the settling of the American West.
