This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover, no dust jacket as none issued with this edition. 2003 Impress Mystery Books, Best Mysteries of All Times. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp and clean, white and bright. The binding is tight and straight. Green hardcover boards with white lettering are also near fine. Standard octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 357 pages.
Written in 1943 by Manfred B. Lee and Frederic Dannay, this classic mystery was originally published under the pseudonym of Ellery Queen. The novel begins when Ellery Queen moves to a small New England town for peace and quiet and to start a new novel. The house he is renting is at the center of a local mystery. The house was built and furnished to accommodate newlyweds Jim and Nora. But, the day before the wedding Jim disappeared and the wedding called off. The house became known as Calamity House and was designated jinxed. Suddenly, Jim returns just after Ellery rents the house and the wedding is being planned again.
What ensues is a plot to poison Nora, the death of Jim's sister who drinks the poison and Ellery finally solving the murder plot and exposing the murderer.
