This is a near fine (almost like new) set of three hardcovers, each with accompanying slipcase. 1946 Heritage Press Edition. This set is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are still crisp and clean with no markings seen. The bindings are tight and straight. Marble designed hardcover boards with quarter brown trim are also near fine. Gold title lettering along the spine of each. Each hardcover has barely a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying slipcases are very good, solid with only light shelf wear. They are crown octavo book size or 6" x 8" each with 816 pages Volume One, 713 pages Volume Two and 547 pages in Volume Three, The Montaigne Essay Handbook.
The Essays of Montaigne were originally published in 1850 covering a wide range of topics. They are an important contribution to the art of writing. Containing 107 chapters, the topics move from the mundane to the profoundly imperative. They are considered to be one of the most prominent works in French philosophy. Michel de Montaigne was one of the most significant philosophers of the French Renaissance.
