This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. 2000 Knopf Publishing. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp, clean, with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Tan hardcover boards with black quarter trim and silver author/title/publisher lettering on spine are also near fine. The dust jacket is almost like new with only a hint of shelf wear along edges. Royal octavo book size of 6.5" x 10" with 778 pages. Rough cut page edges give the binding a fine edge and fine binding look.
Lieutenant Colonel de Maumort by Roger Martin Du Gard was the 1937 Nobel Prize winner for Literature. Du Gard was a French novelist who published a long series of novels. This novel was written over 18 years and intended to be published posthumously. The book is in the form of a memoir by an aristocrat and soldier. It is a sweeping epic novel with fascinating characters and events.
