This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover. 1977 Franklin Library Limited Edition from the Pulitzer Prize Literature series. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp, clean, with no markings seen. Vellum endpapers front and back have just a hint of fading but overall near fine. Smyth sewn binding with attached ribbon bookmark. Leather bound in black with gold design and title/author/publisher in gold along spine. All three page edges tipped in gold. Hubbed spine. The leather-bound hardcover boards are near fine with only a hint of shelf wear. Standard octavo book size or 6" x 9.25" with 306 pages.
The Late George Apley by John Phillips Marquand was published in 1937. The novel is a satire of late 19th and early 20th century upper class in and around Boston.
The book was an instant bestseller and won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 1937.
