This is a very good hardcover, NO slipcase as originally issued. 1941 Harcourt Brace Co. Limited Edition, SIGNED by William Saroyan on final page, end of book. 1000 copies were printed in limited signed editions, this is number 955. See photo for image of signature page, and NOTE: the signature page is found in the BACK of the book, following last page. Normally you would expect the signature page to be placed in front across from or following printing info. so please make note of such. This copy is very good inside and out. SEE PHOTO for foxing seen inside but ONLY in two places; inside front and back cover. Rest of pages are clean, free of markings or foxing. The binding is tight and straight. Green hardcover boards with gold embossed insignia and author initials on front cover. Gold title, author, illustrator lettering along spine is clean and barely worn. The binding is tight and straight. Super octavo book size or 7.25" x 11" with 90 pages including author signature page.
From the signature page: " This First Edition of Saroyan's Fables embellished with numerous drawings and five wood engravings by Warren Chappell, has been set in 18 point Linotype Caslon Old Face. One thousand copies have been printed from type by Huxley House, in New York City, in the year Nineteen Hundred and Forty One A.D. and signed by the author".
William Saroyan was an American author who won the Pulitzer Prize in 1940 for Drama and best know for The Human Comedy which won the Academy Award for Best Story in 1943.
