This is an acclaimed memoir of World War Two in the Pacific. It was the first book to reveal the savage fighting of the entire war. William Manchester returns to the hallowed islands where thousands of his generation gave their lives. The historian relives the events of his service on the islands of the Pacific and laments the lack of monuments at the time to honor the service and sacrifice. This memoir has long stood as a definitive account in raw honestly and detailed recollection.
