This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1981 Gramercy Books. This copy is very good inside and out. NOTE: previous owners name neatly written inside front cover (see photo), no other marks etc seen. The pages only have a hint of light natural tanning from age but are clean and still crisp. The binding is tight and straight. Blue hardcover boards w black quarter trim under jacket are very good with barely a hint of shelf wear. The dust jacket is clean and still shiny, also with barely a hint of shelf wear. Royal octavo book size or 6" x 10" with 707 pages.
Six gothic tales fill the pages of this book. The Castle of Otranto, Frankenstein, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Dracula, and The Turn of the Screw are complete and unabridged in this edition.
The first true gothic novel appeared in 1764; Horace Wapole's The Castle of Otranto. The tale has all the elements of the gothic novel; a medieval castle, a lost heir, a villain, and supernatural phenomena. Similar themes abound in the other tales making this a true gothic collection.
