This is a very good large hardcover with dust jacket. 1981 Harper & Row Publishing. This copy is very good inside and out. The pages are clean and free of markings. The binding is tight and straight. Tan cloth hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with barely a hint of shelf wear. The dust jacket is good, still shiny and clean with light shelf wear INCLUDING being neatly price clipped inside front jacket flap. Imperial octavo book size or 8.23" x 11" with 246 pages including index.

Complemented with concise intros to each chapter, as well as extensive captions, this volume features more than 300 photos. We see the extraordinary men and women who have played roles in The Red Cross - Clara Barton, Mabel Boardman, Jane Delano, Wilbert E. Longfellow and, of course, one World War l ambulance driver by the name of Ernest Hemingway. There are scenes and vintage photos of the San Francisco earthquake, the Dustbowl, and the wars in Korea and Vietnam just to name a few. Included are 16 pages of Red Cross posters and other memorabilia in full color.
