This is a very good hardcover, NO slipcase, slipcase missing. Heritage Press 1958. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp, clean with no markings seen. No foxing and there is not really any tanning to pages from age as often seen in older editions. The binding is tight and straight. Blue cloth hardcover boards are very good, with silver author/title/publisher lettering along spine. Royal octavo size or 6.5" x 10" with 232 pages.
This Heritage Press edition of Le Grand Meaulnes, The Wanderer by Alain-Fournier is translated from French by Francoise Delisle with intro from Henri Peyre. The edition is finely illustrated in color by Dignimont, a French illustrator. The author was killed in the first month of World War One and this was his only novel. The novel was published in 1913 and is somewhat autobiographical. The novels narrator is 15 yr old Francois Seurel who tells of his friendship with the 17 yr old Augustin as Augustin searches for his lost love, which personifies the romantic ideal and the life that transitions between childhood and adult. the French title of Le Grand Meaulnes has been translated into several English title such as The Lost Domain, The Lost Estate, and The Wanderer. Heritage Press subtitled this edition under The Wanderer.
