This is a very good hardcover. Dodd Mead early 1900's edition, First Edition printed in 1894. This edition was printed in handsome fine binding after the success of the First Edition in 1894. There is light natural tanning to pages from age but they are clean and free of markings. PLEASE NOTE: Previous owners bookplate neatly placed inside front cover (see photo). the binding is tight and straight. The hardcover boards are bound in fine binding featuring marbled front and back cover with half and quarter corner leather trim. Top page edges tipped in gold. The hardcover boards are very good but there is wearing to title corner leather trim but overall still good condition as wearing but no serious degradation. This is a smaller hardcover, crown octavo size or 5" x 8" with 327 pages.
Beside the Bonnie Brier Bush was published in 1894 by John Watson under the pen name Ian Maclaren. This collection of stories was his first publication and depicted rural Scottish life. It was also one of his most popular works. Based on his experiences as a Free Church minister the book captured tales of family life, humor and delightful Scot dialogue.
