This is a very good hardcover. 1934 Smithsonian Institute Scientific Series, Volume Four. This copy is very clean inside and out. Inside pages are very clean with only a hint of light natural tanning from age. No foxing or markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. The maroon hardcover boards are also very good, clean with only a hint of shelf wear. Maroon boards have gold design and feature stamped Smithsonian Institute Washington seal on front cover. Gold title/series/author lettering along spine. Medium octavo size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 309 pages including index. This edition features rough cut page edges giving it a look of fine antique binding.

The Smithsonian Scientific Series was originally published in 1929 and consisted of 12 volumes. This is Volume 1 of the Series. The editor in chief was Charles Greeley Abbot, Secretary of the Smithsonian at the time. This edition title is; The Smithsonian Institute by Webster Prentiss True, Editor of the Smithsonian Institute. This first volume in the series feature talks about everything Smithsonian.
