Rare Books Wuthering Heights Emily Brontë Jane Eyre Charlotte Brontë Two Volume Slipcased Illustrated by Fritz Eichenberg Random House 1943

This is a very good set of two hardcovers in slipcase. Random House Publishing 1943. Both hardcovers are very good inside and out. The pages only have a hint of light natural tanning from age and appear clean and free of markings. NOTE: there is slight remnants of previous owners bookplate inside front cover of BOTH volumes but minor flaw. The hardcover boards on both are illustrated front and back and are in very, very good condition with only light shelf wear at corners/edges. The olive green slipcase accompanying the pair is also very good given age and shows only light shelf wear. Each hardcover is royal octavo size or 7.5" x 10" with 212 and 343 pages respectively.

This set of two iconic literary treasures is sure to please any Brontë and literature lover. Each volume is finely illustrated with wood engravings by Fritz Eichenberg. The illustrations were printed on letter press from electrotypes of the original wood engravings.

Wuthering Heights is an 1847 novel by Emily Brontë and considered to be one of the greatest novels ever written but it was not without controversy. It was chided for its challenges to Victorian morality and depictions of cruelty. Originally published under the pen name Ellis Bell, it was Emily Brontë's only novel.

Jane Eyre, published in 1847 by Charlotte Brontë, was originally published under the pen name Currer Bell. It was originally published in 3 volumes, the second edition was dedicated the William Makepeace Thackeray. It too is considered one of the greatest novels ever written.
