This is a very good paperback. 1999 8th Armed Forces Edition unabridged. Inside pages are crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight, NO creasing along spine. The cover is clean and still shiny with only a hint of shelf wear mostly along edges and corners. There is a gift stamp from the couple who donated the book, first page (see photo).
This true story is the story of a quest by a young man for truth and peace. The year was 1943. The war picture in the Pacific was far from bright. All the islands were held by the enemy. the now famous campaign in which U.S. forces won Tarawa, Marshall Islands, Saipan, Guam Iwo Jima Okinawa and more had not yet been fought.
In 1943 the author of this book was a young Marine officer training at Camp Pendleton. As he prepared to enter the Pacific theatre he wanted to leave a message to friends at home telling them why he went off to war with peace in his heart. This book was the message he wrote.
