This is a near fine (almost like new) set of two hardcovers in slipcase. 1968 Atheneum Press, New York. Both hardcovers are near fine, inside pages crisp and clean, no markings seen. The bindings are tight and straight on both. Navy blue hardcover boards under jackets are also near fine w gold title lettering on spine. The dust jackets are very good, they both have light shelf wear but overall very good. the accompanying slipcase is also very good with light shelf wear, minor fading along top and hint of wearing to corners. Slipcase has pastedown title on front and book descriptions on back. Each hardcover is royal octavo size or 6.5" x 10" with 2195 pages to Volume ll and 1082 pages to Volume l.
In these volumes one can find selections from plays that range from Curse You, Jack Dalton, and Life With Father, to novels that range from President Fu Manchu to To Kill a Mockingbird, and humor pieces from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes to Introducing Jeeves, and songs ranging from Alexander's Rag Time Band to Gershwin and Hammerstein. Philosphers Plato and Kant are represented, and historians from Jefferson to Kennedy and Johnson will be found. Childrens classic are not forgotten either. Winnie the Pooh and The Secret Garden make appearances. On any pages can be found bits and pieces, snips and long excerpts. You may find James Joyce, Hemingway, Keats and Shelley. This is an editor's treasury of this and that.
