This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. Modern Library 1950. This copy is clean inside and out. The pages have very light natural tanning from age but are clean, free of marks and no foxing. Modern Library design endpapers front and back. The binding is tight and straight. The hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with only a hint of wearing. The dust jacket is considered good. There is a tear front bottom edge neatly taped and some wearing along edges and corners. Back of jacket showing wear but overall good as present and intact. This is a small volume, 12mo or 5" x 7.25" with 164 pages. Given the 12mo size, the text is smaller as this edition was intended to be a "carry-along" of portable and readable edition for any reader.
This immortal epic of the wrath of Achilles and the siege of Troy is as vivid to the contemporary reader as it must have been to Homer's first enraptured listeners centuries ago. This edition as translated by Long-Leaf-Meyers was selected for The Modern Library as the best available prose version of The Iliad upon advice of leading American and English authorities in the classics.
