This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover. 1992 Time Life Books. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. Pages crisp, clean and free of markings. Binding tight and straight. Cover bound in maroon imitation leather w embossed design front only and color illustration front. Only very light wear to cover, mostly at corners or edges. Imperial octavo size or 8.5" x 11" with 183 pages.
Time Life published this series in the 1990's called The American Indians. Each title in the series focused on a different topic of American Native history. This title, the European Challenge, tells the story of the impact of white settlers on Native American in North America. Beginning with the First Encounters, additional chapters tell of Conflict in the North Woods, The Flight of the Pueblos, and more. The influence and encounters mount as Europeans travel further into North America. Common ground is found in trade but less favorable encounters come together to tell the history of the coming together of Native Americans and the European settlers. Lavishly illustrated with vintage photos, color illustrations and paintings, the informative text combine to give a definitive history.
